"Break the Hell" has been in theaters for less than half a month, but its box office has already reached 90 million, which is quite impressive. Starring Michael Hui, Dayo Wong, Michelle Wai, and Chu Pak Hong, "Break the Hell" explores profound themes such as life and death, family relationships, gender issues, and the conflict between tradition and modernity against the backdrop of the funeral industry.
The story of "Break the Hell" is set against the backdrop of a raging pandemic and a sluggish economy, where wedding planner Wei Daosheng (played by Dayo Wong) is forced to switch careers and become a funeral agent. Initially, due to ideological differences, he has many conflicts with the funeral master Brother Man (played by Michael Hui). While preparing for the funerals of five deceased individuals, witnessing Brother Man's meticulousness in his work, experiencing the bits and pieces of Brother Man's interactions with his daughter Wenyue (played by Michelle Wai), and listening to a piece of Nanyin music, Daosheng's attitude towards his profession and life gradually changes.
