At the End of the Road: In This Low-Quality World

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Dickens spoke of the contradictions of his era. England had just undergone the Industrial Revolution, with a great leap forward in the quality of social life, yet at the same time, social welfare protections were not yet established, and the gap between rich and poor was severe, truly an era of ‘the rich feast while the poor freeze to death.’

Today’s world similarly coexists with progress and decay. On one hand, general information is increasingly abundant, yet on the other, useful knowledge—what we truly need to know—is becoming harder to obtain or less appreciated. Dating guru Kino once complained to me about how unrewarding his work has become. He said that when he posts serious, in-depth topics on his blog or YouTube Channel, such as how to choose custom-made shirts, there’s little response, whereas trivial topics bashing Hong Kong men and women garner a flood of replies.
