The Low-Profile Dark Horse in Central's Private Club Battlefield – Whale Club

Despite its small size, Hong Kong is home to numerous private clubs, many with a long history, some of which can be traced back to the British colonial period in the 1880s. In the early days, private clubs were mostly social venues for the upper echelons of politics and business, with members who were all wealthy or noble. Some clubs had strict membership requirements, where one needed to be invited or nominated by other members and pass a vote to qualify; being able to join was definitely a symbol of social status.

Today, many private clubs have more relaxed systems, and the membership fees for some smaller clubs are no longer as high. What has evolved is that each club has its own unique positioning. Beyond the basic 'eating and drinking,' each club targets different demographics, such as art and culture enthusiasts, yacht lovers, cigar collectors, and industry development exchanges. Central, always a battlefield for private clubs, has seen an increasing number of private clubs in recent years. This time, we would like to introduce the Whale Club, hidden on Lyndhurst Terrace.
